We’re now 8 weeks out from the Kilkenny Kettlebell Club’s next competition. 8 weeks away from testing my Jerks and Snatch against some of Europe’s top lifters. I’ll be one of approx 70 kettlebell lifters stepping onto the platform to take part in one of the most grueling sports ever conceived.
Usually on the run up to these events I’d have been updating you with a training log, but for the last number of weeks I’ve been struggling with injury after injury. preparation has not gone to plan so far.
BUT
For the first time in a long time I’ve taken my own advice and actually rested up, worked on mobility and backed right off on my training. I haven’t lifted a kettle in anger for over a month. I’ve touched a barbell in over a month. I’ve done a few bits here and there, but nothing to write home about. But finally the body is feeling good again, the rhomboid injury is still not fully healed, but the old hip and back injuries have relaxed. I think I’m finally ready to resume some hard graft in preparation for the meet.
I’ll keep a training log of the next 8 weeks, I’ll maybe even shoot a few workouts. I’ll definitely be stepping on the platform in Kilkenny and giving it my all.
There’s a lot to be said for hard training, but there’s even more to be said for intelligent training and intelligent training includes taking time off.
Learn from the mistakes of this ol’ Coach, push your limits, test your self, but never forget to listen to the body, take the time to recover and recuperate and come back stronger.
