In the article about the liver, I mention that there is a supplement that can help the liver to do its job.
The name of that supplement is N- acetylcysteine (NAC), besides helping the liver to do its job it has also a few other benefits.
Cysteine is an amino acid which our bodies, it’s produced from other amino acids like methionine and serine. You can find it in foods like eggs, chicken, turkey, beef, cheese, yogurt, shellfish, nuts, seeds, beans.
When taken as a supplement it’s taken as N-acetyl cysteine. The body then makes it into cysteine and into glutathione, an antioxidant.
NAC is mostly valued for its role in antioxidant production.
NAC is approved by the FDA as a respiratory drug since 1963. It’s also used intravenously to prevent liver damage by overuse of paracetamol.
