The Art of Running Efficiently, Effectively and Injury Free

Running. If you believe the internet then running is: Going to make you fat and weak, cos “cardio” Not natural for human beings Will ruin your knees Will hurt your back Will cause plantar fasciitis And a whole lot of other misconstrued, conformation bias lead claims. Claims that are mere correlation, not causation. If you follow my work, you will know that I approve of running. It IS completely natural for the human being to run, to run well, to be able to run at a variety o

    Why Strength Matters for Running

Last week I was invited out to DCU (Dublin City University) to partake in a study they are carrying out on running injuries. This is a subject that is very interesting to me personally. In Wild Geese I do a lot of work in helping athletes and fitness enthusiasts rehab their injuries. And a good number of my crew, especially my Lunchtime crew, are keen triathletes, a few are dedicated runners. And I’m no stranger to running myself. We all know that high fives from kids along

Why Are You Wearing Those Shoes?

This mornings first client is a keen amateur runner. Over the weekend he went out to Amphibian King, he preferred running shoe supplier to buy himself some new kit. The guys in the shop do a gait analysis to help decide which shoes you buy. He’s always been told to buy shoes to prevent “over-pronation” He was wearing them on the day he went to get a new pair. The guys in the shop were baffled as to why he ever thought he needed over-prontation shoes, as this gait analysis sh

Extreme Training Proves to be Harmful, Who Knew?

I just came across an interesting article highlighted through the power of facebook. This isn’t an unusual occurrence, quite often I open facebook, scroll through the home page and within a few minutes I have a dozen windows open each one featuring a new article on fitness or strength & conditioning. But this one caught me, I figured it was worth, not only sharing, but actually discussing. If you click on the image below you can read the article, for those who can’t be bothe

More on Cardio and Some Thoughts on Running

Actually that last one usually comes from my wife…. So what was the biggest thing people are saying about the cardio post? Well for many it’s, “But I HATE running!” Which is fair enough I suppose, but why do you hate it so much? We are after all natural runners. As controversial as that sentence may be in today’s gym culture, it must be true. Can you name another mammal that hunts successfully without running? Almost every carnivorous/omnivorous animal has the ability to mov

Our Wild Geese Muay Thai coach and fellow kettlebell enthusiast Dave “The Rasta” Gordon said to me one time after I’d hur
